An Odd Man’s Odyssey: April 2026
The Rhythm of the Writing Quill
Dear reader, it took me a minute to decide what to write to you about this month.
As a quick update on things, I have two projects in the pipeline. One is the audiobook for Letters of a Wind Walker. That is still in recording with the narrator and should be done this month, hopefully to be published late this month or early next month.
The second is the sequel to All We Have to Remember, with the working title Dread Reckoning. Now, that one is actually nearly ready to go to an editor. The one hangup is, of course, money $$$. Editors, Narrators, and advertisers all cost a bit. So I need to wait to hire my editor until I’ve paid out to my narrator for the audiobook. That’s part of why I haven’t done too much social media either. I’m paused as I save up.
Still, it won’t be too long until things are moving again.
Beyond that, I figured I’d write to you about a more fun part of my writing adventure, music!

If you think my odyssey is odd, just wait until you hear about my playlist. Some authors like to listen to certain types of music that match either their genre or the mood of their scene. In part, I do that too. However, that isn’t a hard rule for me.
While I write books, I can go from listening to classic rock to folk music to orchestral, and then to soundtracks from movies and games. I’ll switch through all of those and do it all in an hour. (The Captain Random title isn’t just for show)
That being said, as I mentioned, I will occasionally match scenes. Especially if, while writing, I run across a song that just matches the scene. I don’t need it, but if it happens, I’ll play that one song on loop for an hour on its own while I flush out my words.
If you’re interested in some of the things your local author listens to on their writing journey, I’m more than willing to give you some unique and obscure recommendations.

Maybe those links don’t interest you, and if so, that’s fine. We all have our own tastes in writing, and I am all too aware that I have strange interests. Whatever you listen to while reading or writing, my one recommendation is to find a song that tells you a story. That’s the root of what works for me.
Enjoying my oddities,
C.R. Ware
