An Odd Man’s Odyssey: June 2025

The Return to the flat lands,
and stepping into the adventure

I’m back, Dear Readers,

I knew I would be here again, but that doesn’t mean this place isn’t still a challenge.

On my writing Odyssey, now that I’m moving from publishing a book to selling and writing again, things are becoming a matter of once again walking in wide open spaces. You weren’t with me last time I was here, so let me describe this place to you.

These are the flatlands of writing, as far as the eye can see, it’s an open road. In this open land of storytelling, I can go in any direction. However, that offers as many worries as opportunities. Anyone who’s tried writing can tell you that writer’s block and the fear of the blank page don’t come from feeling you have no options, but too many.

The feeling that overcomes me is just how small I am, compared to the breadth of the world around me. Even in my sales, what I constantly see is that “There is no right answer.”

The idea that, as I journey on, there is a better direction I could go in, constantly haunts the back of my mind. However, I am trying not to let it distract me. I can stare at the open lands for as long as I like, but I will never make progress if I don’t start moving sometime.

So, dear readers, walk with me. Try to take 20 seconds (that’s it, just that long) and see if there is anything in your own journey that has you standing still because of all of the options before you.

My challenge to you is, take a step, maybe it won’t be in the best direction, but journeys are never about always going the right way all the time. In fact, many are about what happens when you’ve taken a wrong turn or find yourself going in circles, and how you move on from those mistakes.

Don’t fear the adventure, step into it. This month, I’m stepping out in a bunch of new directions, and journeys aren’t as fun when they’re alone. So come along, and let’s strike out in a direction and see what adventures come our way.

When the susurrus of the open sky whispers fears of what could be,
The only choice to make is to begin to move your feet.
And as has been said,
It’s “by testing” that we can discern our way again.

This may sound obvious, but that doesn’t mean it never needs saying; you’ll never get anywhere standing still. Stepping out is the most common bravery we can all have, and I know that you can be brave.

Until Next Time,

~C.R. Ware

P.S. – Getting to 20 reviews on amazon is a huge deal for small authors like me, if you’ve read my new book please leave a review!
