An Odd Man’s Odyssey: June 2026

Bold Words Little Writer

Dear reader, I want to be Bold

Captain Random is a nickname I’ve had for years now.

I don’t know how that nickname sounds to most people, but to me it’s something that has a shifting meaning. At times loud, and other times insightful. Those are both things I want to be, but there is one more thing that I think this name always has that I wish I had a little more of: courage and boldness.

As many of you know, my given name is not actually C.R. Those are just initials. Look at my author page to see the full story, but my given name is Caleb.

Why do I bring this up? Because the meaning of that name is many times boiled down to the words courage, boldness, and loyalty.

So, both my name and nickname have connections to those same ideas for me.

I’m not one of those people who think names give us our identity, but I am of the belief that they can give us something to strive for. Personally, I want to be bold and courageous. I want to speak the truth at any cost. I want to tell the stories I am given, whether the world wants them or not.

But that isn’t easy. Honestly, recently I haven’t been feeling very bold or courageous.

When a person acts boldly, what they usually want more than anything is a reaction. I’ve been doing my best, and I feel like the only reply has been silence.

This has been far more disheartening for me than most of you may think. All the same, I don’t want to give up. My adventure has shown me wonderful things, and if all I end up doing is screaming into the mountains without hearing an echo, I want to keep going.

Acts 4:29 NLT “And now, O Lord, hear their threats and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word.

I still don’t know where my odyssey is going to take me. Maybe I will never get the reaction I want out of my random acts and loud words, insightful or otherwise. However, dear reader, don’t give up and help me not to give up either, not now, and not ever.

Let’s live boldly.

Shouting in silence because it’s what I’m meant to do,
C.R. (Caleb, Captain Random) Ware
