An Odd Man’s Odyssey: October 2025

The Mountain and its Haze

Dear Readers, I’m not sure what’s going to happen next.

After writing and publishing my first book, I’ve sold and distributed copies far and wide. For a first book, I think I’m even pleased with the results. That was the conquering of my first mountains.

Now, as my steps on this writing adventure bring me toward another, I can see that the mountain I’m about to climb isn’t like the last one. More than what I can see, however, it’s what I can’t see that bothers me.

Where I am in the Odd Man’s Odyssey is that in the next month and a half, I want to accomplish two goals. #1: Publish my audiobook for All We Have to Remember. #2: Publish my second novel, Letters of a Wind Walker.

Those are definitely peaks to climb, and by some manner of fortune, they are both coming to a head around the same time.
(That was not the plan originally, but is how it appears to be working out. Oops.)

Trying to get all of that done (with setup, editing, advertising, and cost) is the mountain. The worries are that there are things I cannot see about this climb. I haven’t published an audiobook before, and my second book is a different genre, so how is selling it different?

Already, I’ve experienced surprises just walking around the base of this mountain, from the audio cover to challenges with the fonts my book formatting software can produce for my next novel. What else awaits me?

Would it be best to step away from this mountain and try to find an easier path, or is it best to face the challenge head-on while I have the chance?

I wish I could tell you I had the answer, dear reader, but sadly, I do not… yet.

All I can say is that while the mountain and its haze vex me, they won’t beat me. Whether I have to delay a project or put in extra effort and planning, I’ll do what needs to be done.

Recently, I’ve found I’ve been encouraging myself with this simple phrase, and it applies here too.
“I can go further.”

This is a challenge, but I can go further. This isn’t the end of my odyssey, and I hope you’re as excited as I am to see what comes next.

Going on and on,

~C.R. Ware
